Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins recommended the Los Angeles Lakers pursue a trade for Dillon Brooks, saying he would “trade Austin Reaves in a heartbeat” for the Suns wing. Cousins made the remarks on Run It Back, calling Brooks a “culture changer” and “a proven winner” who fits the Lakers’ current needs.

Brooks, 30, is averaging 21.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game for the Phoenix Suns while shooting 34.3% from three. He has established himself as a two-way wing capable of defending multiple positions and providing scoring off the ball.

The Lakers, third in the Western Conference at 22–11, are led by Luka Doncic, who is averaging 33.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game.

Reaves, contributing 26.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game, has been a key offensive option but lacks the defensive impact Brooks brings. Cousins believes that acquiring a proven perimeter defender would strengthen the Lakers’ championship window.

Brooks’ defensive presence could help contain elite wings while complementing Doncic and LeBron James, who is still averaging 21.2 points and 6.7 assists at age 41. Brooks’ physicality and experience add a veteran edge the Lakers have been missing.

Los Angeles’ current roster features Deandre Ayton at center, shooting 70.4% from the field and averaging 14.3 points with 8.4 rebounds. While Ayton anchors the paint, Cousins’ proposal emphasizes upgrading wing defense over post scoring.

The Suns are 21–14 this season, and Brooks has played in all 29 games, averaging 30.9 minutes per contest. His ability to create momentum through defense and timely scoring makes him an attractive trade target for teams seeking balance on both ends.
