Jake LaRavia credited preparation and confidence for his 21-point performance as the Lakers beat Memphis 128-121. “I got going pretty early… the ball was fine to me, especially in that first half, and I was just able to get going and stay aggressive,” LaRavia said.
Maintaining confidence through shooting struggles has been key for LaRavia this season. “With the amount of work that I put in… I just started with the basics again, and hopefully I can find my rhythm again,” he explained, emphasizing the role of practice and consistency.
On defense, LaRavia highlighted the energy he and Marcus Smart bring to the starting lineup. “That’s our role… defensive effort, intensity, physicality. When we’re in that starting lineup, it starts from the jump. We have to change the game defensively, help us win extra possessions, dive on loose balls, make winning plays,” he said.
LaRavia recognized when his offensive rhythm clicked. “Probably when I had like 18 in the first half… the first shot went down, and it felt good. I knew pretty early,” he said. He also spoke about his role as a connector on the court. “Some nights this is what happens, other nights I’m that defender, connector, crasher… just understanding my role each game,” he added.
He praised LeBron James’ influence on the floor. “It’s fun to watch… he still controls the game in his 23rd season. He does a great job not only scoring baskets but connecting and making the right play every time,” LaRavia said.
Reflecting on clutch situations, he stressed focus and intensity. “It’s tough to play defense like that for 48 minutes. When it gets to those clutch moments, we understand we have to play like that to win. We just locked in on intensity and effort… started blitzing, forced a couple turnovers, and played off that,” he explained.
LaRavia also expressed pride in wearing the Lakers jersey. “I grew up a fan… it means something to play for this team. I wear the Lakers with pride across my chest every night,” he said, underscoring his connection to the franchise and its fans.
The Lakers improved to 21-11 with this win, overcoming a 15-point deficit and a short-handed Grizzlies team.
