Denver’s injury list may be growing at an awkward time as the schedule moves deeper into the holiday stretch.
Forward Cameron Johnson exited Tuesday night’s game against Dallas late in the fourth quarter after appearing to hurt his right knee, leaving the floor with a noticeable limp.
The team is expected to get more clarity soon, as Johnson is set to undergo an MRI to evaluate how serious the issue might be, according to ESPN reporter Tim MacMahon.
Before the setback, Johnson had been a fixture in the starting lineup, opening 27 games this season while posting averages of 11.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in just over 30 minutes per night.
His performance had been trending upward as well, coming off a strong 20-point effort in Monday’s victory over Utah.
Johnson joined the Denver Nuggets in the offseason after being acquired from Brooklyn, and he is currently in the third season of a four-year contract worth $94.5 million.
His availability matters even more given Denver’s current health situation. The Nuggets are already missing two regular starters.
Christian Braun has been sidelined with an ankle injury since November 12, while Aaron Gordon has not seen the court since November 21 due to a hamstring issue.
Losing another key rotation player would further test Denver’s depth.
