The Oklahoma City Thunder dominated the Phoenix Suns 138-89, to tie the best 25-game start in an NBA season, and secured a ticket to the NBA Cup semifinal on Wednesday.
Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 28 points, Chet Holmgren contributed 24, and eight rebounds, which led the franchise into their 16th straight win.
It’s 24-1 mark ties the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, who won their first 24 games before finally losing.
Oklahoma advanced to the semifinals on Saturday against the Los Angeles Lakers or the San Antonio Spurs.
Meanwhile, Phoenix star Devin Booker missed his third straight game with a strained right groin.
Booker dropped 21 points in their previous matchup and noted that the “secret is out” about the Thunder’s league-leading defense during the post-game game on November 28, 123-119 clash.
Dillon Brooks led the Suns with 16 points, but he made just 4 of 16 shots, as it was the fewest points Oklahoma City has allowed this season.
Thunder forward Jalen Williams hit a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer to give the Thunder a 74-48 lead.
Meanwhile, Phoenix sharpshooter Grayson Allen was ejected after he shoved Holmgren and knocked him to the floor.
The Thunder led 94-58 with 5:18 left in the third quarter when two collided while Holmgren appeared to be setting a screen, and Allen was called for Flagrant 2.
Phoenix looks forward to bouncing back when they face the Golden State Warriors next week, while Oklahoma is set to compete against the Lakers or Spurs on Saturday.
