Raptors wing RJ Barrett recently underwent a platelet-rich plasma injection to treat his sprained right knee, and while he has shown improvement, the team announced he will remain out for at least another week.
His absence comes as Toronto prepares to face New York in Tuesday’s NBA Cup quarterfinal, leaving the Raptors without their third-leading scorer.
Jamison Battle is doubtful with a left ankle sprain, and key reserve Jamal Shead is questionable due to a right quad contusion.
Before suffering the injury on November 23 against Brooklyn, Barrett was off to a strong start to the season, averaging 19.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists across 17 games while shooting efficiently.
Toronto’s season has been unpredictable – big winning streaks followed by sudden losing stretches – but the team still holds a 15-10 record and sits fourth in the East, though the standings remain tight.
Barrett has now missed eight consecutive games, during which Toronto has gone 3-5.
Second-year guard Ja’Kobe Walter has filled in as the starter for the past five games but has struggled recently, going 0-for-9 over his last two outings while posting a minus-40 on-court rating in that span.
