The San Antonio Spurs don’t yet know whether Victor Wembanyama will suit up on Wednesday, but he will accompany the team to Los Angeles for their NBA Cup quarterfinal matchup against the Lakers.
Head coach Mitch Johnson shared the update with reporters, saying “It’s unclear if he’ll be available to play,” while confirming the star center will make the trip.
Wembanyama took part fully in Sunday’s practice, a positive sign in his recovery. However, he was sidelined again on Monday, marking his 11th consecutive missed game due to the left calf strain he suffered on November 15.
Before the injury, Wembanyama had been delivering dominant production in his second NBA season. Through 12 games, he averaged 26.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 3.6 blocks in 34.7 minutes per outing.
The 7’4’’ center, selected first overall in the 2023 draft, had been establishing himself as one of the league’s most impactful two-way forces prior to the setback.
