Karl-Anthony Towns has embraced his return to New York, and the feeling of being back home has become one of the central themes of his first season with the Knicks.
The All-Star big man made it clear that playing in his home city is something he hopes will last well into the future.
When asked about his interest in extending his contract, Towns didn’t hesitate.
“Hell yeah. Hell yeah, I want to stay here,” he said, emphasizing how meaningful it has been to be close to his family again.
He added that being home carries more weight for him than the financial aspect of a new deal.
“Obviously get a chance to be home, see my family. It means more than the money, you know. So just to be able to be here with the fans, be with the family. It means a lot. I would like it to continue.”
Despite that enthusiasm, the Knicks and Towns were unable to reach an extension agreement during the past offseason. Towns is still under contract for two more seasons after this one, set to earn $57.1 million in 2026–27, followed by a $61 million player option for 2027–28.
He will be eligible to negotiate a new extension again next summer, giving both sides another chance to find common ground.
Towns expressed confidence that negotiations will go smoothly thanks to a strong working relationship with the organization’s leadership.
“Me, Leon (Knicks team president Leon Rose) and Gersson (Senior VP of basketball operations Gersson Rosas) and everyone, we’re great,” he said, suggesting that mutual trust should help guide discussions when the time comes.
