The FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for women continues for a second day as teams look to build on performances from the first day and three more sides begin their campaign in a bid to reach the Rio Olympics in August.

Group A

Hosts France are the first team to advance to the quarter-finals after they overcame New Zealand 70-52 in Nantes.

The New Zealanders made life difficult for the London 2012 silver-medalists in the first half and they even took a 29-27 lead at half-time.

Then France turned up and booked their place by outscoring New Zealand 43-23 in the second half.

Isabelle Yacoubou led France with 19 points.

Group B

After winning yesterday, Argentina were brought back down to earth as they were beaten handsomely 66-38 by Turkey.

Lara Sanders recorded a sublime double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds for Turkey who get off to a winning start.

Group C

A three-pointer from Ezinne Kalu with five seconds left gave Nigeria a stunning 70-69 win over an unlucky Korea side in the first game in Nantes.

The Asian side hit 14 three-pointers, shooting 42 percent from deep but came unstuck in the clutch as their Olympic dream hangs by a thread.

Joyce Ekworomadu led the Nigerians with 14 points, cancelling out Ajeong Kang’s superb 22-point effort for Korea.

Group D

Spain began their Olympic qualifying campaign with a comfortable 77-43 success over China, who suffer their first loss of the tournament.

The European powerhouses held China to just eight points in the first quarter and enjoyed a comfortable 35-21 half-time cushion without being troubled.

Alba Torrens led Spain with 22 points.
