Deni Avdija delivered one of his most efficient scoring nights of the season, finishing with 27 points as the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 122-110 on Wednesday at Rocket Arena.
Portland ended a three-game skid and moved to 9-13, using a balanced attack that saw six players reach double figures. The group combined to shoot 34 of 39 at the foul line, with Avdija converting 16 of his 17 attempts.
Cleveland, now 13-10, dropped its fourth game in five outings and suffered its first defeat of the season to an opponent with a losing record. Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 33 points, marking his 13th 30-point outing.
Evan Mobley added 23 points and 10 rebounds, giving the Cavaliers a needed presence inside with Jarrett Allen, Larry Nance Jr., and Sam Merrill all sidelined due to injuries.
Portland established a 10-point lead at halftime behind a 36-point opening quarter and extended it early in the fourth. Toumani Camara fueled the surge with 10 straight points, part of a 14-6 run that created needed separation.
Camara hit 3 of his 5 attempts from long range and has now made 9 of his last 15 threes over the past three contests, continuing his upward trajectory as a perimeter threat.
The Trail Blazers’ bench added 46 points. Caleb Love and Shaedon Sharpe each scored 20, providing consistent scoring pressure when the starters rested. Sharpe added nine rebounds and five assists in 32 minutes, giving Portland steady play across multiple categories.
Portland also shot 6 of 10 from beyond the arc in the third quarter, matching Cleveland’s perimeter firepower during a period when Mitchell and Mobley kept the hosts within striking distance.
Cleveland trimmed the deficit late, sparked by a 13-4 push in the fourth. Mobley’s three brought the Cavaliers within 113-108 with 2:37 left, but Avdija answered immediately with a turnaround jumper in the lane.
Mobley misfired from outside on the next possession, and Portland closed the game at the line, maintaining control through its free-throw accuracy.
Jerami Grant posted 16 points, while Camara and Donovan Clingan combined for 22. Portland held a 54-45 edge on the glass and recorded 27 assists on 37 made field goals.
Mitchell, who entered the night averaging 30.7 points, continued to carry the bulk of Cleveland’s scoring load, but the Cavaliers shot 13 of 52 from deep and struggled to generate consistent offense outside their stars.
Portland now heads to Detroit for a matchup on Friday. Cleveland returns home to face San Antonio that same night, looking to regain the momentum it held earlier in the season.
