The Atlanta Hawks outlasted the Philadelphia 76ers 142-134 in double overtime on Sunday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena, riding a massive performance from Jalen Johnson to secure their fourth win in five games.
Johnson delivered 41 points, 14 rebounds and three made threes, including back-to-back long-range shots that broke a tie late in the second overtime.
His scoring surge pushed Atlanta to 13-8 and overshadowed a standout night on the other side from Tyrese Maxey, who had 44 points for Philadelphia.
Joel Embiid returned after missing nine straight games and finished with 18 points in 30 minutes, playing alongside Maxey and Paul George in the starting lineup for the first time this season.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 34 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Hawks while shooting 11-for-22 from the field and 6-for-6 at the line.
Atlanta also received 17 points and nine rebounds from Dyson Daniels, who helped stabilize the offense during key stretches.
The Hawks’ 13-0 run to open the fourth quarter shifted momentum and built a seven-point edge before Maxey powered a late comeback.
Maxey forced overtime with a mid-range shot in the final seconds and later gave the Sixers a lead in the first extra session, continuing to attack off the dribble despite struggling from three.
The All-Star guard missed two free throws with a chance to extend the advantage to four, allowing the Hawks to answer.
Philadelphia’s Dominick Barlow fouled Alexander-Walker with 1.1 seconds left, and he made both free throws to tie the game at 126 and force a second overtime.
Johnson then took control, hitting a three from the right wing to break the tie before sinking another on the next trip.
Atlanta shot 46% from the field and finished with 15 made threes, while Philadelphia was held to 10-for-44 from beyond the arc.
Quentin Grimes scored 28 off the bench for the Sixers, providing a needed scoring lift in a game where the team leaned heavily on its guards.
George added 16 points with steady defensive work, and Barlow scored 10 while contributing six rebounds.
Embiid worked into early rhythm in his return, scoring through contact and drawing double-teams, though the Hawks consistently tested his mobility by pushing the pace.
Atlanta won the rebounding battle 58-46 and totaled 21 offensive boards, generating second-chance points that proved critical in a tight matchup.
The Hawks closed out both overtime periods with cleaner half-court execution and timely perimeter shooting, giving them their third road victory of the season.
Up next, the Hawks travel to Detroit on Monday night, while the 76ers return home to face Washington on Tuesday.
