The Philadelphia 76ers used balanced scoring and timely perimeter shooting to earn a 115-103 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night at Barclays Center.
The victory moved Philadelphia to 10-8 and snapped a two-game skid despite missing key rotation players, including All-NBA center Joel Embiid and rookie guard VJ Edgecombe.
Tyrese Maxey finished with 22 points and nine rebounds, controlling the tempo throughout 42 minutes as the 76ers navigated multiple roster setbacks.
Jared McCain added 20 points off the bench, supplying essential spacing with four made 3-pointers in one of his strongest performances of the season.
Quentin Grimes delivered 19 points and nine assists while Paul George contributed 14 points in a steady two-way effort.
Philadelphia also lost backup center Andre Drummond in the second quarter after he sprained his right knee while contesting a Tyrese Martin floater.
Drummond immediately grabbed at his knee after falling in the lane, leaving the 76ers without their top two centers for the remainder of the game.
Egor Demin scored a career-high 23 points for Brooklyn, adding five 3-pointers while operating as the Nets’ most consistent threat.
Tyrese Martin posted 16 points off the bench, and Noah Clowney contributed 16 points and seven rebounds in an active interior showing.
The Nets dropped to 3-15 and remain the only winless home team in the league, falling to 0-9 at Barclays Center this season.
Philadelphia built a 63-48 lead at halftime before Brooklyn responded with an 11-2 run capped by a Demin 3-pointer that cut the margin to 74-65 late in the third.
McCain answered with a transition layup and a corner three, helping the 76ers regain control before the final quarter.
Demin pulled Brooklyn within nine again with 4:35 remaining, but Grimes found an unguarded Adem Bona for a left-wing three that pushed the lead back to double digits.
Bona’s shot ended Brooklyn’s last push and sealed the 76ers’ second NBA Cup win to bring their group record to 1-3.
Philadelphia shot 49 percent from the field, assisted on 28 of 43 made shots, and committed only 11 turnovers while overcoming its depleted frontcourt.
Brooklyn finished at 40 percent shooting and 13-for-43 from deep, struggling to generate offense outside of Demin’s perimeter bursts.
The teams combined for 82 rebounds, with both sides grabbing 41, but the 76ers dominated late possessions by controlling defensive boards.
Philadelphia returns home Sunday to host the Atlanta Hawks as it awaits medical updates on Drummond and Edgecombe.
Brooklyn travels to Milwaukee on Saturday in search of its first home win of the season.
