Terry Rozier III remains away from the Miami Heat while on leave, as the league continues investigating allegations that he may have been involved in gambling activity and manipulating in-game statistics.
Miami has moved forward without him in the rotation, but the organization is still waiting for clarity from the NBA regarding whether Rozier can legally be included in any trade discussions.
According to the report, the Heat have yet to receive confirmation from the league about whether Rozier’s expiring $26.6 million contract can be used as salary-matching in a potential deal – a key distinction, since expiring contracts of that size are often valuable trade assets.
When the South Florida Sun Sentinel contacted the NBA, the league did not say Miami is prohibited from trading Rozier, but it also did not give the team permission to include him in transactions.
As of now, the Heat are in limbo, unable to move confidently in either direction.
Despite the uncertainty and a long list of injuries to important players, Miami has started the season 10–6 and positioned itself as a potential playoff contender.
If the Heat decide they’re ready to pursue roster upgrades to make a postseason push, Rozier’s expiring contract could become one of their most important tools – assuming the league eventually allows it to be used.
