Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott praised his team’s resilience after a 114-113 victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday at the Mortgage Matchup Center.

“There’s not much to say after that,” Ott said, noting the importance of staying composed and finding ways to win despite late-game adversity.

Collin Gillespie emerged as a key contributor, scoring 20 points and hitting the go-ahead jumper with 6.4 seconds remaining. Ott highlighted Gillespie’s poise, stating, “He’s always ready… tough dude, really smart. Played at the high level everywhere he’s gone.”

The Suns overcame an eight-point deficit in the final minute, despite Devin Booker fouling out with over three minutes remaining and Dillon Brooks also sitting out due to foul trouble. Ott credited the team’s selflessness and adaptability, saying, “Whatever it takes, whenever it takes, whoever’s out there, just find a way to outscore the opponent.”

Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 41 points but missed two critical free throws in the closing seconds, allowing Phoenix the opportunity to take the lead. Ott emphasized the importance of executing in these high-pressure moments, noting the team’s awareness and ability to transition to the next play.

Jordan Goodwin’s timely layup had cut Minnesota’s lead to 113-112 just 21 seconds earlier, while Mark Williams added 19 points and Dillon Brooks scored 22. Ott praised the bench and secondary lineups, explaining, “That group always offensive rebound. Anytime Goody’s out there, we get offensive rebounds, we win those possessions.”

Despite committing 27 turnovers, the Suns maintained composure and executed their late-game plan, including aggressive drives and strategic ball movement. Ott noted the high-level decision-making on the final plays, particularly Gillespie’s handling of the inbounds and reading Minnesota’s defense.

The Suns improve to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in NBA Cup play, while Minnesota drops to 10-6 and 2-1. Ott concluded by emphasizing continuous improvement, stating, “Tomorrow we’re going to review it and continue to get better because we’ve got a big weekend ahead.”
