AS Monaco delivered one of its most decisive performances of the season Wednesday night, overpowering LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne 84-52 at LDLC Arena in a wire-to-wire EuroLeague victory.

Monaco controlled the matchup from the opening minutes, using disciplined half-court execution and disruptive defense to build a 14-11 lead in the first quarter before breaking the game open with a 20-10 second period.

ASVEL struggled to generate rhythm offensively, shooting 2-of-25 from three-point range and committing 23 turnovers, a combination that prevented it from matching Monaco’s physicality or pace.

Monaco’s surge in the third quarter, a 30-19 frame, removed any doubt, as Vassilis Spanoulis’ group repeatedly converted in transition off ASVEL mistakes.

Elie Okobo led Monaco with 11 points, while Nikola Mirotic and Mike James each added 12, helping the visitors improve to 7-5 on the season.

Jaron Blossomgame contributed eight points and 10 rebounds, anchoring a frontcourt effort that outrebounded ASVEL 37-45 on the night.

For the home side, the lone positive came from the long-awaited return of Thomas Heurtel, who made his season debut after being inserted just four minutes into the contest.

Heurtel finished with seven points and two assists in 13 minutes, offering brief stretches of composure in an otherwise difficult night for Pierric Poupet’s team.

With Nando De Colo sidelined due to a hamstring injury, ASVEL relied heavily on inexperienced contributors who struggled against Monaco’s pressure.

ASVEL posted its second-lowest scoring output ever in EuroLeague play and suffered its sixth-heaviest defeat, a reflection of the mounting challenges facing the 3-9 squad.

Monaco will look to maintain momentum when it hosts Anadolu Efes next Wednesday, while ASVEL prepares for a difficult road trip to Barcelona in Round 13.
