NBA three-time champion Danny Green was impressed by Detroit Pistons superstar Cade Cunningham as they have been dominating the early season so far, especially in the East.
After the Pistons dethroned the Hawks on Tuesday, their 11th straight win of the season made it somewhat surprising to the entire league.
Green has compared Cunningham to the reigning MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who understands the importance of patience that could lead Detroit to more winning momentum this season.
“I’m thinking SGA. He’s looking like the SGA of the East to me, playing at his own pace, taking his time. What’s more impressive to me is how they’ve gotten wins with him out of the lineup. Question can they win 28 (in a row)? That’ll be impressive. If they do that, Cade Cunningham, he might be MVP,” Green said.
The former sharpshooter might be accurate in his assessment, as Shai and Cade share a similar height of 6-foot-6 and the same point guard position, which also involves being a floor general and main scoring option.
With Cade coming off after patiently waiting for their time, the new generation of players were slowly being felt to step up in the league.
Detroit has been hot lately, boasting a 13-2 win-loss record, the best in the East, while the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, continue to find their consistency with a 15-1 record.
Both teams share the same momentum due to their leaders, who have stepped up.
Cunningham could reach the potential of being the season MVP, as he is currently averaging 27.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 9.9 assists with an almost double-double average.
Meanwhile, Shai has a higher average of 31.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.7 assists, aiming to secure his second MVP award.
