Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla discussed the team’s 121-118 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, highlighting key moments and defensive adjustments. Jaylen Brown scored 33 points with 13 rebounds, and Payton Pritchard added 30 points, helping Boston withstand a late rally.

Mazzulla acknowledged the challenge of balancing aggressive defense with avoiding fouls. “We forced 14 turnovers to their six and we got 15 more shots than they did. It’s situational…we just have to continue to play the way we play and have good situational execution,” he said.

The coach noted the Celtics’ struggles in the restricted area. “Everyone thinks just because the closer you get, the easier it is. We have to be much better when we get the ball in the paint and sprint back on defense,” Mazzulla said.

Boston countered a Clippers run fueled by James Harden’s scoring. “They put James Harden back in around the six-minute mark, went to more of a shooting lineup, and he made some plays,” Mazzulla said. He added that Harden’s ability to draw fouls made certain defensive choices more difficult.

Mazzulla praised his players’ composure under pressure, highlighting Jordan Walsh’s defensive effort. “He guarded him for 33 straight minutes, made winning plays throughout the game, and is showing true mindset and professionalism,” Mazzulla said.

He also noted the impact of improved three-point shooting from Derrick White and Payton Pritchard. “It changes the way teams defend us and opens up shots in the restricted area,” he said, adding that their success was the result of hard work and consistent execution.

Brown’s leadership and all-around play stood out. “He had two steals in the fourth quarter and is playing both ends of the floor. That’s how he leads for us,” Mazzulla said. He also credited Neemias Queta for stabilizing the team inside and providing consistent production.

The Celtics maintained composure in the final seconds, with Pritchard making two key free throws to seal the win after Harden hit a deep three to cut the lead to one. Boston finished with 49 rebounds and 16 three-pointers, while limiting turnovers and controlling the pace.

Boston improves to 7-7 with the victory and looks to extend its streak against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, while the Clippers drop to 4-9 and travel to Philadelphia.
