Onyeka Okongwu scored 27 points as the Atlanta Hawks erased a 22-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Phoenix Suns 124-122 on Sunday at the Mortgage Matchup Center. Atlanta extended its winning streak to five and finished 4-0 on their western trip.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 26 points, including a crucial free throw with three seconds left. Royce O’Neale grabbed the rebound on the miss, but his halfcourt shot bounced off, sealing the Hawks’ comeback.
Josh Johnson posted 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Dyson Daniels recorded 11 points and 12 assists. Atlanta won despite missing All-Star guard Trae Young (right knee sprain) and center Kristaps Porzingis (right knee soreness).
Dillon Brooks led Phoenix with 34 points, Devin Booker scored 27, and Colin Gillespie added 15 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. The Suns were without Grayson Allen and Jalen Green, who will miss at least four more weeks with a right hamstring strain.
The Hawks trailed by 22 points late in the fourth quarter after Phoenix closed the third with a 95-77 lead. Atlanta’s rally was fueled by Okongwu and Alexander-Walker, with Zaccharie Risacher contributing 15 points before leaving with a left hip contusion.
Atlanta shot 53% overall and 33% from three-point range, while Phoenix made 48% from the field but only 33% from beyond the arc. The Hawks also overcame Phoenix’s dominance on the boards, with both teams grabbing 47 rebounds each.
The victory sets up a Tuesday home game for Atlanta against Detroit, while Phoenix travels to Portland on the same night.
