Tyronn Lue addressed the Los Angeles Clippers’ 120-119 home loss to the Miami Heat, emphasizing turnovers as the critical factor.

The Clippers committed 21 giveaways, which the Heat converted into 37 points. Lue pointed to 16 second-half turnovers as a decisive problem. “Got to take care of the basketball. We turn the basketball over, don’t get shots on goal, it’s going to be a hard night for us,” he said.

Lue acknowledged the team’s slow start in the third quarter, allowing Miami to gain momentum. “I thought we got off to a poor start to start the third quarter and kind of gave them life and confidence,” he explained.

Despite the loss, the Clippers had strong performances from James Harden with 29 points and Kawhi Leonard with 27. Ivica Zubac added nine points and 18 rebounds, while Derrick Jones Jr., Bradley Beal, and John Collins contributed 12 points each.

Lue credited Kris Dunn for his defensive energy in the third quarter. “KD’s energy every single night, what he does defensively, initiating offense when James is getting pressured, is really good for us,” he said.

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Lue stressed that ball security will be crucial. “If we turn the ball over like we did tonight, it won’t be close. They thrive off turning teams over, getting out in transition,” he noted.

Lue also reflected on offensive execution. While acknowledging the fast pace in the first half, he suggested fatigue may have contributed to second-half struggles. “Guys could have got worn down, but we still got to do a better job taking care of the basketball,” he said.

The Clippers had multiple opportunities to win, with Leonard taking a 26-foot step-back three at the buzzer that missed. Lue said the team attempted to catch Miami on the fly defensively but noted, “Kawhi didn’t get the look he wanted to get.”

Bradley Beal showed progress early in the season, and Lue emphasized the importance of continued reps and development. “He had good pop. Having him on the floor is going to be important for us,” he said.

Lue concluded by reinforcing focus on the next game. “This game’s over. We’ve got to move on to the next tomorrow. Can’t hang our heads about it. We’ve got to learn from it,” he said.
