After falling 137–106 to the Thunder on Sunday, the New Orleans Pelicans dropped to 0–6, joining Brooklyn as the only winless teams in the NBA. The poor start has intensified questions about head coach Willie Green’s job security, following a 21-win season last year.
Rylan Stiles of Locked On Thunder noted during the game that the Pelicans appeared to have “quit on Green,” citing their lack of energy and engagement. The Ringer’s Zach Lowe agreed, describing the team as “broken across the board” and suggesting Green is likely feeling the pressure.
The Athletic’s Law Murray reported that New Orleans has given up at least 120 points in every game so far, including three 30-point losses in their last four.
While injuries plagued last year’s roster, The Athletic’s William Guillory pointed out that this season’s group is mostly healthy, making their struggles harder to excuse. He added that “a change in leadership feels inevitable” if things don’t turn around quickly.
Adding to the tension, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel said multiple players have already expressed frustration with the team’s direction.
The Pelicans’ recent decision to trade their unprotected 2026 first-round pick to draft rookie Derik Queen has also drawn criticism. Queen, who is recovering from a wrist injury, played under seven minutes in Sunday’s loss, scoring four points.
