Andrew Wiggins entered this season with renewed motivation after a disappointing playoff showing in which the Cleveland Cavaliers swept the Miami Heat.
As Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reported, Wiggins was determined to bounce back following a series in which he shot just 16-of-43 from the field and committed 11 turnovers.
The experience pushed him to refocus during the offseason and work to regain the form that helped him play a key role in Golden State’s 2022 championship run.
“That definitely wasn’t one of my better series and I did a lot more of everything (on the court) this summer,” Wiggins said. “I did everything I did before and more to get to the next level.”
After being traded to Miami at last season’s deadline, Wiggins now feels more settled with the Heat, benefiting from a full offseason to adjust to Erik Spoelstra’s system and life in South Florida.
His family has also joined him, bringing added stability as he embraces his role within a deep and talented roster.
Though his scoring average has dipped to 14.5 points per game through the first four contests, Wiggins said the drop reflects the balance of Miami’s offense rather than any decline in performance.
“I play within the flow of the offense, play within the flow of the game, and do whatever I can to help the team win,” he explained.
“We’ve got Tyler (Herro), an All-Star. You’ve got (Norman Powell), who had a hell of a season last year. Should have been an All-Star last year. But he’s heading towards it this year. We’ve got Bam (Adebayo). Bam’s another All-Star. So we’ve got a lot of guys that can do a lot of special things.”
