The Philadelphia 76ers have officially picked up the third-year option on guard Jared McCain’s rookie-scale contract, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The move secures McCain’s $4,422,600 salary for the 2026–27 season.
The team’s next decision on his deal will come next fall, when they’ll have to decide whether to exercise his fourth-year option, valued at about $6.84 million for 2027–28.
Selected 16th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, McCain quickly emerged as one of the standout rookies in his class.
Before suffering a season-ending knee injury last December, he averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game on efficient .460/.383/.875 shooting splits across 23 appearances.
The injury, a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee, required surgery and ended a promising rookie campaign.
Now fully recovered from that setback, McCain is still awaiting his 2025–26 debut after undergoing thumb surgery a month ago.
Once healthy, the 21-year-old will rejoin a strong Sixers backcourt led by Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe, who have guided Philadelphia to a 4–0 start this season.
Friday marks the league’s deadline for teams to exercise rookie-scale options, and McCain’s was the only such decision on Philadelphia’s roster this year.
