Cameron Johnson is trying his best to fit with a championship team.

After the Denver Nuggets fell short to the Golden State Warriors on their opening night, it has been a disappointing debut for Cameron Johnson with his new team, as he scored just 5 points on Thursday.

Despite his limited contributions, Nuggets head coach David Adelman backed him up, as Johnson had gained different experience from the Brooklyn Nets to Denver, which provided contrasting exposure to the team’s competitiveness.

“Cam’s journey has been interesting. He goes to the finals in Phoenix. Goes to Brooklyn, he has the ball in his hands a lot. Nothing against Brooklyn, didn’t play in a lot of big-time games there, and then he gets here, and our first game is at Golden State in this wild environment opening night there. I’m sure it was fun for him to get back in that mode,” Adelman said.

Adelman fully believes in the swingman’s potential when he gets comfortable competing with a champion-caliber team.

“You know the shot is going to fall with Cam. He’s got really good looks. We know who he is.”

With such setbacks in their opener, Denver immediately bounced back in their second game against the Phoenix Suns, taking a blowout lead of 133-111.

Although Nikola Jokic is their primary contributor, with another triple-double of 14 points, 15 assists, and 14 rebounds, Johnson slowly gets his rhythm as he drops 15 points and four boards.

Before his three-year stint with the Brooklyn Nets, the 6-foot-8 forward started to play for the Phoenix Suns in 2019.

Last season, he averaged 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists, shooting 47.5% from the field.
