After the Golden State Warriors’ win, head coach Steve Kerr praised Jonathan Kuminga’s growth both on and off the court, pointing to a noticeable shift in the young forward’s maturity and mindset.
Speaking with reporters, Kerr said he’s seen clear progress from the rising star during training camp and credited veteran Jimmy Butler – acquired last season – for playing a key role in his development.
“(Kuminga’s) had a great camp,” the coach said, as reported by Marcus Thompson II. “We’ve had some really good conversations. I think he has a better understanding of what we need.”
Kerr explained that Kuminga now shows a deeper awareness of his responsibilities and how to contribute within the team’s system.
“I think he just has a better sense of what’s needed now compared to past years,” he continued. “And I think Jimmy has really helped him, too. Jimmy has talked to him a lot during camp, he’s taken him aside after practices.”
Kuminga has played 5 seasons for the Warriors. He has averaged 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in 259 regular-season games. He has won 1 NBA championship.
