Baskonia announced Wednesday that it has mutually agreed to terminate the contract of forward Luka Samanic due to personal reasons.
The 25-year-old Croatian joined the Spanish club in late December 2024 and appeared in 20 EuroLeague games during his stint in Vitoria-Gasteiz. He played in all five of Baskonia’s contests to start the 2025–26 EuroLeague season, averaging 7.0 points and 2.6 rebounds.
“Luka Samanic will no longer be part of the Baskonia roster after reaching a mutual agreement to terminate his contract due to personal reasons,” the team said in an official statement. “The club thanks him for his commitment and professionalism during his time in Vitoria-Gasteiz and wishes him every success in his personal and professional future.”
Samanic’s departure comes as Baskonia sits at 0–5 to start the EuroLeague season, one of its toughest openings in recent years.
A former first-round NBA Draft pick by the San Antonio Spurs in 2019, Samanic previously spent time with the New York Knicks and Utah Jazz before returning to Europe.
His arrival at Baskonia was seen as part of the club’s plan to retool its frontcourt with players capable of stretching the floor and defending multiple positions.
During his tenure, Samanic averaged 8.6 points and 3.0 rebounds over his 20 EuroLeague appearances, shooting 54.2 percent from two-point range and 31.6 percent from beyond the arc.
