The Philadelphia 76ers have added long-time NBA executive Scott Layden to their scouting department, according to a report from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Layden most recently worked as a scout for the Sacramento Kings and brings decades of front-office experience to Philadelphia. He has previously served as general manager for both the Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks and held front-office roles with the San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz.

The move signals the 76ers’ continued focus on strengthening their talent evaluation as the organization prepares for another deep postseason run. Under president Daryl Morey and head coach Nick Nurse, the franchise has prioritized roster balance and long-term sustainability around stars Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George.

Layden’s extensive background in team building and player assessment could play a key role in supporting those efforts. During his tenure in Utah, he was part of the Jazz front office that helped shape playoff-contending rosters around John Stockton and Karl Malone.

In Minnesota, he worked alongside head coach Tom Thibodeau and contributed to the development of young players, including Karl-Anthony Towns.

Layden’s track record of identifying international and collegiate talent could further aid the Sixers’ long-term strategy, especially as they continue to manage salary cap constraints following major signings. His presence adds another experienced voice to a front office that has already undergone several structural adjustments since the offseason.
