Former Butler standout Gordon Hayward is returning to his alma mater, joining the Bulldogs as Executive Basketball Advisor.

Hayward, who retired from the NBA in August 2024, played 14 seasons in the league with the Utah Jazz, Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, and Oklahoma City Thunder. He was a 2017 NBA All-Star and earned multiple accolades during his collegiate and professional career.

At Butler, Hayward will provide strategic guidance on basketball operations, player development, and program growth. The Bulldogs hope his NBA experience will accelerate the development of current players and enhance recruiting efforts.

Hayward played two seasons at Butler from 2008 to 2010 before being selected ninth overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2010 NBA Draft. His return marks the latest high-profile connection to Butler’s basketball program.

Butler’s 2025–26 roster includes senior forward Yohan Traore, guard Jalen Jackson, and junior Finley Bizjack, among others. Hayward’s mentorship is expected to support both the upperclassmen and incoming freshmen in adjusting to collegiate competition.

The Bulldogs have a history of producing NBA talent, and Hayward’s appointment underscores the program’s commitment to blending professional insights with college-level development.

Hayward’s career averages include 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game over 835 regular-season contests. He was a consistent scorer and versatile forward, known for his perimeter shooting and ability to impact games on both ends of the floor.
