Indiana Pacers rookie Johnny Furphy described teammate Tyrese Haliburton as a once-in-a-lifetime leader, calling him “the most talkative person ever.” Furphy highlighted the guard’s personality as a key factor in team chemistry.

“His genuine nature and willingness to engage with everyone makes him incredibly valuable,” Furphy said, via HoopsHype, adding that he feels fortunate to play alongside Haliburton.

Haliburton, 25, has emerged as a central figure for the Pacers over the past two seasons. He earned All-NBA Third Team honors in 2024–25 and became the first player in playoff history to log multiple 30+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 15+ assists games with zero turnovers.

Despite suffering a torn right Achilles in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Haliburton maintained a positive outlook.

Furphy, the Pacers’ 2024 second-round pick, spent time in the G League during his rookie season but has steadily grown in confidence.

“Being around someone like Tyrese helps you understand leadership at a high level,” Furphy added. “He communicates constantly, and that brings out the best in all of us.”

The Pacers will enter the 2025–26 season without Haliburton, who is expected to miss the year recovering from surgery. Furphy and the rest of the roster will rely on his leadership from the sidelines as Indiana seeks to maintain its competitive edge.
