Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott offered encouraging news on Sunday about two players who could find themselves in the starting lineup this season.
Speaking with reporters, Ott said that guard Jalen Green, who is dealing with a hamstring issue, is “definitely progressing” and emphasized that “every day has been better” as the 23-year-old works his way back.
Ott also provided a positive update on center Mark Williams, noting that he is “in a good place” as he continues ramping up his conditioning ahead of the season.
At the same time, Ott stopped short of making any promises about their preseason availability.
The Suns have two upcoming exhibition games in China, scheduled for Friday and Sunday, and the coach explained he wasn’t committing to either Green or Williams suiting up in those contests – though, importantly, he “didn’t rule out the possibility.”
Meanwhile, Green’s teammates seem optimistic about his progress. Guard Jared Butler, asked about the young scorer’s recovery, remarked that he thinks Green is “super close” to being ready to play.
