One of the biggest surprises to emerge from Brooklyn Nets training camp has been the play of guard Tyrese Martin, according to C.J. Holmes of the New York Daily News.

Though he entered camp on a non-guaranteed deal and with no clear path to a roster spot, Martin has turned heads with his consistent impact.

“Tyrese has really been probably the most impressive player that I’ve seen on the team so far,” said forward Michael Porter Jr., one of the Nets’ new additions.

“He’s been consistently killing through scrimmages, through open runs. He’s a player that can slide in that point guard place but can also play the two. He can pass the ball. He’s been really impressive.”

Martin has earned praise from several corners of the team, with both Ziaire Williams and head coach Jordi Fernandez highlighting his versatility and effort.

The 24-year-old guard has shown he can handle multiple roles, giving the Nets an unexpected boost of depth in the backcourt as they prepare for the season.

For Martin, the opportunity has been meaningful. After bouncing around the league without much stability, he expressed appreciation for the way Brooklyn has welcomed him and given him a chance to prove himself.

“I love these guys, I feel like they love me the same way,” Martin said.

“It’s fun being here. This is the first coach and team that actually gave me an opportunity, and I feel like I’ve held up my end, and didn’t make them look crazy for giving me an opportunity. So, it would be fun to stay here and make this my home, for sure.”
