Crvena Zvezda Belgrade is finalizing a deal to bring in EuroLeague veteran Donatas Motiejunas on a short-term loan from AS Monaco, according to BasketNews reporter Donatas Urbonas.

The Lithuanian center is expected to join the Serbian club on a three-month contract, with an option to extend through the end of the 2025-26 season.

Motiejunas, 35, has not been part of Monaco head coach Vassilis Spanoulis’ rotation this year. He was seen in casual clothes on the bench during Monaco’s EuroLeague opener, a home loss against Zalgiris Kaunas.

For Zvezda, the move comes at a crucial time after the team dropped its opening game against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. The Belgrade side has already reinforced its roster by bringing back guard Yago dos Santos, and Motiejunas would add much-needed frontcourt depth.

The veteran big man has appeared in 160 EuroLeague games, averaging 8.6 points and 4 rebounds across his career. He has spent the last four seasons with Monaco after previous stints in the EuroLeague with Zalgiris Kaunas and Prokom.

Motiejunas has also played in the NBA, where he spent six years between 2012 and 2017, most notably with the Houston Rockets. His size, post skills, and passing ability have made him a valuable option in Europe, especially for teams seeking inside scoring and experience.
