Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant indicated during 2025 Media Day that he envisions signing a contract extension with the team.

NBA insider Michael Scotto reported Durant saying, “I do see myself signing a contract extension. I can’t tell you exactly when that will happen, but I do see it happening.”

Durant is entering the final year of his current deal, which makes him eligible for a two-year extension through June 30. If completed, the projected value of the contract could reach $122 million, keeping the former MVP in Houston for the near future.

The move comes after the Rockets quickly secured forward Jabari Smith Jr. with an extension earlier this offseason, reinforcing their commitment to building around a young core.

Durant’s extension would provide veteran leadership alongside the team’s rising talents, including Smith Jr. and other key contributors, while offering stability for both player and franchise.

The Rockets are also in discussions with Tari Eason, a 24-year-old forward entering his fourth season, though talks have progressed more slowly. Eason is eligible for an extension through October 20, just before the regular season begins.

Durant, a perennial All-Star and 12-time NBA All-Star, has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game over 1,123 contests. His scoring and efficiency have consistently ranked among the league’s elite.

For the Rockets, finalizing Durant’s extension is a top priority as the team prepares for the 2025-26 campaign. Securing him could also set the tone for approaching other key contracts and maintaining roster continuity.
