Javale McGee is off to a fresh start in a new environment.
After 16 seasons in the NBA, the three-time NBA champion started his debut season in Australia when he signed with the Illawara Hawks.
McGee dominated the opening night with 32 points, 13 boards, and three blocks, but not enough to beat the Tasmania JackJumpers.
The defending champions Hawks have fallen short with 91-86 at WIN Entertainment Centre on Saturday.
The 7-foot center made history as he became the oldest recruit with 37 and 261 days, a year more than the previous record holder, Steve Blake.
In the 2023-2024 NBA season, the ex-NBA veteran played for the Sacramento Kings for 46 games. After a year, McGee went outside the NBA as he competed for the Vaqueros de Bayamon, and recently won a championship in the 2025 Puerto Rican BSN finals.
