Nigel Hayes-Davis addressed reporters at the 2025 Phoenix Suns Media Day, reflecting on his decision to return to the NBA. The forward recently signed a fully guaranteed one-year contract with the Suns following a highly successful stint in Europe.
“I’m extremely happy to be back here. It took a lot of hard work, a lot of belief, a lot of early mornings and late nights,” Hayes-Davis said.
Hayes-Davis comes off a standout 2024-25 season with Fenerbahce, where he averaged 16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 41% from three-point range. He also earned EuroLeague Final Four MVP honors and led his team to consecutive Turkish League and Turkish Cup titles.
The forward highlighted how his time overseas transformed his game. “Extremely different… leaving college not known as a shooter to now having this attached to my name is a testament to the hard work and the people around me,” he said.
Hayes-Davis credited mentors, family, and friends who supported his basketball journey, recalling early morning gym sessions and friends helping him perfect his shot. He said returning to the NBA is also a way to honor their contributions.
He also shared insights gained from training with Team USA last year, observing elite routines from players like Devin Booker and Kevin Durant. “Just watching everyone, the way they come in, the way they work… it was a tremendous, tremendous experience,” Hayes-Davis said.
The Suns finished 36-46 in 2024-25, missing the playoffs, and hope Hayes-Davis can provide veteran depth and shooting. His experience in both the NBA and EuroLeague positions him to contribute immediately.
Hayes-Davis emphasized mindset and growth, noting that returning now allows him to combine experience with competitive drive. “Coming here is more of a thank you to all the people in my life who helped me achieve a dream,” he said.
