Statues outside Crypto.com Arena are reserved for the Lakers’ greatest icons, and for now, Byron Scott doesn’t believe LeBron James has done quite enough to join them.
Speaking with TMZ Sports at KiKi Shepard’s Celebrity Golf Classic, the three-time champion explained the standard.
“I think if he gets another one, then he has a chance,” Scott said. “But right now, if you look at the players that have statues in front of Crypto.com [Arena], these are long lifers. They’ve been with the Lakers for almost their entire career, and they’ve had multiple championships.”
Those immortalized include Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Shaquille O’Neal.
James, though beloved, has brought only one title to L.A. so far. Scott clarified: “I love LeBron. I’m a fan,” but stressed the bar for statues is higher.
Scott also sounded hopeful about the Lakers’ future, citing Luka Doncic’s impressive form and chemistry with James: “With him and LeBron James … it’s gonna be a wonderful season.”
At 41, James is racing Father Time, but as former Laker A.C. Green added, a fifth ring remains possible.
