Brazil edged Argentina 55-47 to claim AmeriCup 2025 gold in Nicaragua, in a low-scoring Sunday final, according to FIBA.
The 55 points by Brazil were the fewest ever for a champion, and the combined 102 points the lowest total in any AmeriCup game.
This rematch of the 2022 final saw Brazil avenge its loss and secure its fifth AmeriCup title, first since 2009, while Argentina settled for silver.
Brazilian point guard Yago Santos, who plays for Crvena Zvezda in the EuroLeague, was named MVP, averaging 17.8 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game on efficient .485/.487/.880 shooting across six games.
Santos posted 25 points and 12 assists in Brazil’s semifinal comeback over Team USA and finished the final with 14 points and five assists.
The All-Star Five included Santos and teammate Bruno Caboclo (Brazil), Juan Fernandez (Argentina), Javonte Smart (USA), and Kyshawn George (Canada).
Caboclo and Smart are former NBA players, while George, making his senior national team debut, is entering his second Wizards season.
In the third-place matchup, the U.S. defeated Canada for bronze, replicating the 2022 result, led by 21 points each from Smart and Tyler Cavanaugh.
The All-Star Five second team featured Jose Alvarado (Puerto Rico), Norchad Omier (Nicaragua), Georginho De Paula (Brazil), José Vildoza (Argentina), and Mfiondu Kabengele (Canada).
Omier is expected to sign an Exhibit 10 deal with the Cavaliers, Kabengele last played in the NBA in 2022/23 for Boston, and Alvarado missed part of the tournament due to injury.
