Irish guard CJ Fulton has taken the next step in his basketball journey, agreeing to a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 23-year-old confirmed that he will join the Western Conference finalists for preseason in September before moving to their G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves.
Fulton, who represented Minnesota in the 2025 NBA Summer League, will now have a chance to establish himself within the organization. He appeared in two games during Summer League, averaging 1.0 point and 1.0 assist in limited minutes, but his court vision and passing ability earned the Timberwolves’ attention.
Speaking to BBC, Fulton said he wants to “make the most” of the opportunity. The plan is for him to gain regular game time in the G League, which he believes will accelerate his development.
The guard spent four seasons in college basketball, splitting his career between Lafayette and Charleston. At Charleston in 2024–25, he started 31 games and averaged 7.8 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 37.7% from three-point range.
Fulton’s playmaking ability stood out throughout his collegiate career, where he posted 4.7 assists per game across 127 appearances. His steady shooting from deep also gives him a valuable skill set in today’s NBA.
The Timberwolves, fresh off back-to-back runs to the Western Conference Finals, have invested in player development through the Iowa Wolves. Fulton’s assignment there will allow him to adjust to the pace and physicality of professional basketball in the United States.
For Ireland, Fulton’s deal marks a milestone. Few players from the country have signed with NBA franchises, making his move significant for the growing basketball community back home.
