Luka Doncic powered Slovenia to its first win at EuroBasket 2025 with a historic triple-double in an 86-69 victory over Belgium on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Lakers guard became only the fourth player since 1995 to post a triple-double in the tournament, finishing with 26 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds in Katowice.
Slovenia, the 2017 EuroBasket champions, took control early by switching to a small-ball lineup and forcing mismatches. Belgium led for just the opening 44 seconds before Doncic and his teammates dictated the tempo.
By halftime, Slovenia had built a double-digit cushion and never looked back. The lead grew to 21 points midway through the fourth quarter as Doncic orchestrated the offense with precision.
Klemen Prepelic added 12 points off the bench, while Edo Muric and Leon Stergar combined for 17. Slovenia shot 47 percent from the field and knocked down nine three-pointers to seal the win.
On the other side, Andy Van Vliet paced Belgium with 15 points, while Emmanuel Lecomte tallied 13 and Hans Vanwijn chipped in 8. Belgium struggled to generate efficient looks, shooting just 41.4 percent overall and committing 17 turnovers.
Doncic’s performance was more than just statistical dominance. At 26 years and 184 days old, he became the youngest player since Tony Parker in 2007 to reach 400 career EuroBasket points. Only Goran Dragic and Jaka Lakovic have hit that milestone for Slovenia.
He also joined elite company as the fastest player in the 21st century to reach at least 400 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists in the competition, achieving the feat in just 19 games.
The win kept Slovenia in contention in Group C, where Greece leads the standings at 3-0.
