The Oklahoma City Thunder are making changes to their coaching pipeline following their 2025 championship run.

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Thunder are set to name Daniel Dixon as head coach of the organization’s G League affiliate, the OKC Blue. Dixon served as an assistant with Oklahoma City last season and has been with the franchise since 2022.

Before joining the Thunder, Dixon worked as a video coordinator with the Charlotte Hornets, building a reputation as a detail-oriented development coach. His move to the G League sidelines marks a significant step in his career.

The promotion comes as former Blue head coach Kam Woods joins the Thunder’s NBA staff as an assistant. Woods led the G League squad for three seasons, highlighted by a 2024 G League championship and playing a role in the Thunder’s 2025 NBA title.

Oklahoma City’s developmental system has been crucial to its success, with the Blue serving as a direct feeder for young talent. The franchise has consistently emphasized continuity between its NBA and G League programs, something Dixon will now be tasked with overseeing.

The Thunder enter the 2025–26 season as the defending NBA champions for the first time in Oklahoma City history. Behind MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and a roster featuring Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, the team captured the 2025 Finals in a seven-game series over the Indiana Pacers.
