Cross Tupuola, a beloved football coach and father, now faces a long road to recovery following a violent altercation in a Las Vegas parking lot involving Jaylen Brown’s father, Marselles Brown.
His youth football organization said the incident has “changed his life.”
“Cross Tupuola, our beloved brother, uncle, football coach, and proud father. Recently suffered a horrific tragedy that changed his life for him and his family in an instant,” the team wrote on Instagram.
“While Cross remains strong and fights daily, he now faces a long, challenging road ahead to recovery.”
A fundraiser has been launched to help cover medical and therapy costs, as Tupuola is the sole provider for his family.
“With him being the sole provider of his family, this tragedy will affect his family’s financial situation tremendously,” the team added.
The incident reportedly began August 20 when Marselles allegedly dinged Tupuola’s vehicle. A verbal confrontation ensued, and Marselles allegedly stabbed Tupuola as he turned his back.
Police reported severe injuries including wounds to the chest and hand, a partial gastrectomy, eviscerated bowels, and a broken rib.
Marselles Brown was arrested and charged with attempted murder. His attorney claimed he acted in self-defense, saying Tupuola pistol-whipped him.
NBA champion Jaylen Brown has not commented on the incident.
