EuroBasket presents a valuable opportunity for Simone Fontecchio, the Miami Heat’s newest addition, to regain momentum and demonstrate the contributions he can make to his new team.

After a strong 2023/24 season, Fontecchio struggled to maintain that level during the 2024/25 campaign in Detroit, leaving questions about his consistency.

With Duncan Robinson, a long-standing sharpshooter for Miami, moving to the Detroit Pistons in the offseason, there is a clear opening for perimeter production and floor spacing within the Heat’s rotation.

According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the hope is that Fontecchio can return to the form that made him a 40% three-point shooter two seasons ago, helping to offset some of the scoring and spacing Miami lost with Robinson’s departure.

Performing well in EuroBasket could serve as a springboard for Fontecchio, allowing him to rebuild confidence, regain rhythm, and show that he can be a reliable contributor on both ends of the floor.

For the Heat, his success internationally would provide reassurance that they have added a player capable of filling the long-range scoring void and adding depth to their rotation for the 2025–26 season.

Fontecchio has played 3 seasons for the Pistons and Jazz. He has averaged 7.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 193 regular-season games.
