Devin Booker is the undisputed leader, best player, and franchise cornerstone for the Phoenix Suns. With Kevin Durant traded to Houston and Bradley Beal bought out and later signed with the Clippers, there’s no Big Three to share the offensive burden.
Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic highlights that this season could be the one where Booker sets a new career high in points per game, as he is expected to carry much of the Suns’ scoring load.
Last season, Booker averaged 25.6 points per game on 18.9 field-goal attempts, including a career-high 7.3 three-point shots, with a usage rate of 28.5%.
According to Rankin, reaching 30 points per game will require several adjustments: taking at least 20 shots per game, drawing more fouls to increase free-throw attempts, improving three-point efficiency, and generating more easy baskets within first-year head coach Jordan Ott’s offense.
Creative plays like backdoor cuts, off-ball movements, and coming off pin-downs could create more open looks, while the absence of a true point guard means Booker will need to shoulder even more responsibility.
Booker’s ability to convert mid-range shots efficiently, attack the rim, and maintain composure with referees will be key, as will smarter shot selection from three-point range.
With these adjustments, Rankin believes Booker has a clear path to averaging 30 points per game and leading Phoenix’s new-look roster, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier scorers while carrying the Suns’ offense.
