The wait is over for Polish basketball fans. Poland has officially unveiled its 12-man roster for FIBA EuroBasket 2025, with Katowice preparing to once again take center stage as the host city of Europe’s premier basketball competition this summer.
After a demanding preparation phase that saw the team play eight warm-up games, head coach Igor Milicic confirmed a squad blending veteran leadership with fresh talent.
Captain Mateusz Ponitka will once again be the emotional leader on the floor, while newly naturalized guard Jordan Loyd brings proven offensive firepower and international experience.
Together, they aim to propel Poland back to the heights of 2022, when the team’s Cinderella run carried them all the way to the Semi-Finals.
Poland’s 12-man roster for EuroBasket 2025:
Aleksander Balcerowski, Aleksander Dziewa, Tomasz Gielo, Kamil Łączyński, Jordan Loyd, Michał Michalak, Dominik Olejniczak, Andrzej Pluta, Mateusz Ponitka, Michał Sokołowski, Szymon Zapala, Przemysław Żołnierewicz.
Poland’s summer preparations delivered mixed results. They collected encouraging wins over fellow EuroBasket participants Iceland, Sweden, and Georgia, but dropped five other contests, including back-to-back defeats against Finland in their closing friendlies.
Adding to their challenges was the loss of NBA forward Jeremy Sochan, who had to withdraw before the tournament – a setback that forced Milicic to reshape his rotation.
Still, optimism remains high. Playing in Katowice, the same arena that hosted EuroBasket 2009, Poland can count on a passionate home crowd to lift them.
The team faces a daunting Group D, featuring Belgium, France, Iceland, Israel, and Slovenia, but their combination of grit, depth, and home support ensures they won’t be easy opponents.
The journey begins with a marquee matchup on August 28 at 20:30 CET, when Poland squares off against Luka Doncic and Slovenia – a clash that promises to set the tone for their campaign.
