What looked like a simple exhibition game turned into a night of drama, tension, and unexpected twists.
Germany and Spain, two heavyweights of European basketball, delivered a friendly that felt anything but friendly, ending with the reigning world champions snatching a 106–105 win in overtime.
The clash had all the ingredients of a thriller: comebacks, clutch shooting, and a final stretch where every possession seemed decisive.
Spain fought their way back from behind to force overtime, then nearly pulled off the upset in the extra period. But Germany, guided by the steady hand of Dennis Schröder and the versatility of Franz Wagner, refused to give in.
Schröder, the captain and emotional leader, finished with a commanding double-double of 24 points and 10 assists, while Wagner added 19 points and 7 assists, proving once again why they form one of Europe’s most dangerous duos.
Their effort kept Germany’s momentum alive, pushing their preparation record to 4–1 ahead of FIBA EuroBasket 2025.
For Spain, however, it was another bitter pill. With just one win in five friendlies – the lone success against Czechia – Scariolo’s side faces a rough patch.
Yet if history has taught us anything, it’s never to underestimate “La Roja.” In 2022, few believed they had a chance, and yet they walked away as champions. That spirit still lingers.
In this game, Dario Brizuela carried the scoring load with 20 points, but even his strong performance wasn’t enough to change Spain’s fortunes.
The night also doubled as a celebration, with veteran Sergio Llull honored by his fans, a reminder of the deep legacy woven into Spanish basketball.
Their shot at revenge comes quickly, with a rematch scheduled in Cologne in just two days.
