San Antonio Spurs young sensation Victor Wembanyama has been making headlines with his dominance on the court, but teammate Sandro Mamukelashvili recently revealed a different side of the French star — his growing love for Georgian food.

In an interview on Hello and Welcome, Mamukelashvili shared that he first introduced Wembanyama to Georgian cuisine during a trip to New York. Since then, the 7-foot-4 forward has returned to the restaurant multiple times on his own.

“Oh — he likes Georgian food. A lot,” Mamukelashvili said, via HoopsHype. “I took him to a Georgian restaurant in New York, and since then, he’s been there three times by himself. He always sends me a selfie with Georgian cheese bread.”

The dish he mentioned, khachapuri, is one of Georgia’s most famous foods and has quickly become a favorite for Wembanyama.

Off the court, the 21-year-old has developed into one of the league’s brightest stars in his short time with the Spurs. Before being shut down in February due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, Wembanyama was averaging 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and a league-leading 3.8 blocks per game.

He had already established himself in the record books with historic stat lines. On October 31, 2024, he recorded his second career five-by-five, joining only Hakeem Olajuwon and Andrei Kirilenko as players with multiple such games. Just two weeks later, he scored a career-high 50 points against the Washington Wizards, becoming the fourth-youngest player in NBA history to hit that mark.

His rapid rise culminated in an All-Star selection in January 2025, marking his first appearance in the midseason showcase.
