The Spanish national basketball team has officially incorporated Lucas Langarita and Álvaro Cárdenas into its roster as preparations for EuroBasket 2025 continue. Their addition comes as the squad adjusts to the absence of Albert Abalde, who, as previously announced, will miss the tournament due to injury.
Both young guards already have experience working within the Spanish system. They trained with Spain B during the City of Malaga Tournament and also participated in senior team training sessions earlier this year.
Langarita, in particular, carries notable pedigree: he was part of the U19 World Cup-winning team in 2023 and even received a senior call-up as a wild card during the EuroBasket Qualifying Window in February.
Spain’s preparation schedule now moves into its final phase, with two more warm-up games on the calendar. The team will face Germany twice in a back-to-back series: the first clash will take place on Thursday, August 21, at Movistar Arena in Madrid, followed by a rematch on Saturday, August 23, in Cologne.
The squad currently stands at 17 players, with head coach Sergio Scariolo overseeing the final stage of selections. The full list includes:
- Santi Aldama, Darío Brizuela, Álvaro Cárdenas, Alberto Díaz, Guillem Ferrando, Willy Hernangómez, Juancho Hernangómez, Lucas Langarita, Sergio de Larrea, Xabi López-Arostegui, Isaac Nogués, Joel Parra, Jaime Pradilla, Josep Puerto, Mario Saint-Supéry, Yankuba Sima, and Santi Yusta.
Spain will trim the roster ahead of EuroBasket, but the inclusion of Langarita and Cárdenas gives both players a chance to prove themselves at the highest level and strengthen the team’s depth as the tournament approaches.
