The late Mamba will turn 47 on August 23.
Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant had an extreme influence on and off the court. As the basketball world is about to celebrate his birthday in five days, fans would love to see his commemoration through some of his historic highlights.
The five-time champion experienced an ankle injury during the 2000 NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers, as he missed game three and returned for game four. This is where the fans first witnessed Bryant’s resilience and winning mentality as he still dropped 28 points on 14 out of 27 shots from the field.
Over the years, the 6-foot-6 guard continued to earn championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in different eras.
In the 2000 to 2002 season, he had Shaquille O’Neal against the Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, and New Jersey Nets, followed by the 2009 and 2010 seasons with Pau Gasol acquiring a back-to-back championship as they beat the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics.
Another historic moment is Bryant’s 81 points, which can never be forgotten in basketball history, showcasing the Mamba Mentality that impressed athletes and players around the world.
Last January. 22, 2006, the Lakers were down by 14 points at halftime and 18 early in the third quarter before Bryant took charge of the game. The NBA legend scored 55 points in the second half, including 23 in the final nine minutes of the last quarter.
He shot 28 for 46 from the field, 7 of 13 from the three-point line, and 18 for 20 from the free-throw line.
In 2025, the outburst remains the second-highest scoring performance in NBA history.
Seven months ago, the NBA commemorated Bryant on his death anniversary through his portrait and a statement from the league commissioner Adam Silver, via NBA on X.
“Kobe Bryant continues to serve as an inspiration to aspiring and current NBA and WNBA players, young athletes playing at all levels and those who are motivated solely by his relentless pursuit of excellence. Our thoughts today are with Vanessa and the Bryant family as we remember Kobe and their daughter, Gianna, with whom he shared a special bond around a profound love of the game of basketball.”
