Bones Hyland is positioned to land the Minnesota Timberwolves’ last available roster slot, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
The team has evaluated multiple options, including Malcolm Brogdon, Cam Payne, and Landry Shamet, but Hyland is viewed as the frontrunner.
The 24-year-old guard finished the 2024–25 season with Minnesota on a two-way deal, appearing in four games and playing limited minutes behind the team’s established backcourt.
Despite the small sample size, his quick scoring bursts and long-range shooting remain attractive to the Wolves’ coaching staff.
Hyland has also drawn significant overseas interest this offseason. Matteo Andreani reported that EuroLeague clubs Crvena Zvezda and Olympiacos have made strong pushes, with the Serbian team submitting a “significant offer” for his services.
The Newark, Delaware native has yet to receive firm NBA offers outside of Minnesota, creating an opening for international teams to be aggressive. However, the Wolves’ potential offer could keep him stateside for the upcoming season.
Hyland entered the league as the 26th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft after starring at VCU. He has played 186 regular season games across four seasons with the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Timberwolves, averaging 9.5 points and 2.6 assists in 17.1 minutes per game.
His best NBA stretch came in 2022–23, when he averaged 11.8 points and 3.1 assists while splitting time between Denver and Los Angeles. He also holds 13 career playoff appearances, though his postseason role has been limited in recent years.
