Atlanta Hawks forward Kristaps Porzingis has downplayed any notion of tension with former Dallas Mavericks teammate Luka Doncic.
Speaking to Sporta Centrs while preparing for EuroBasket 2025 with Latvia, Porzingis described their current relationship as “normal.”
“I have a normal relationship with Luka Doncic. Of course, the time in Dallas didn’t work out. It’s a past stage,” Porzingis said.
The two shared the court in Dallas from 2019 to 2022 but were unable to find consistent playoff success during their time together.
Porzingis was traded from the Mavericks to the Washington Wizards in February 2022, beginning a stretch of moves that eventually sent him to Boston and now Atlanta.
He and Doncic faced off most recently in the 2024 NBA Finals, when Porzingis’ Celtics defeated the Mavericks for the championship.
“After that, we met a lot – the Celtics and the Mavericks met in the finals a year ago. In the European context, it seems like we haven’t played since 2017,” Porzingis noted.
The 7-foot-3 forward averaged 19.5 points and 6.8 rebounds for Boston in the 2024-25 season before being dealt to the Hawks in July as part of a three-team trade.
Doncic, now with the Los Angeles Lakers after a blockbuster trade earlier this year, remains one of the NBA’s most dominant players.
