Alex Mumbru, the current head coach of the German national basketball team, will be leading a roster stacked with NBA talent into this year’s EuroBasket.
Despite Germany’s strong lineup, Mumbru told the Spanish news agency EFE – as relayed by Eurohoops.net – that he doesn’t see his squad as the outright favorite. In his view, two other European powerhouses are in pole position.
“We have to play well, improve every day, try to play good basketball, and the team has to have chemistry,” he explained. When asked about expectations, he downplayed the idea of pressure, adding, “Pressure? Everyone’s trying to create it.”
Instead, Mumbru believes the top contenders are elsewhere: “I think Serbia and France are the two strongest teams. We have good players, too, and we’re going to the EuroBasket to win and compete seriously. I’m sure we’ll go there with great desire.”
