The Boston Celtics have officially secured Head Coach Joe Mazzulla’s future, announcing on Thursday a multi-year contract extension for the 37-year-old.
The team did not disclose the length or financial terms, per organizational policy.
Mazzulla, who led the Celtics to their 18th NBA championship in 2024, called the extension “a blessing” and credited his family, Celtics ownership, and players for his success.
President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens praised Mazzulla’s leadership and commitment, noting his track record of over 60 wins per season and elite playoff performance.
Mazzulla was named the Celtics’ 19th head coach in February 2023 after serving three seasons as an assistant.
Since taking the helm, he has compiled a 182-64 regular season record (.740) and a 33-17 postseason mark (.660).
His 2024 playoff run ended with a dominant 16-3 record, the second-best postseason winning percentage since 2003.
Mazzulla became the youngest head coach to win an NBA Finals since Bill Russell in 1969.
Despite their 2024-25 season ending in a second-round loss to the Knicks following a season-ending Achilles injury to Jayson Tatum, the Celtics remain firmly committed to their coaching structure.
The extension follows a turbulent offseason that saw the franchise change hands, with private equity investor William Chisholm purchasing the team for $6.1 billion.
